Massive $600M school opens in Central Valley amid growing population

A Central Valley school district opened a new campus this week with a hefty price tag of $600 million in an effort to relieve overcrowded schools.

The new campus comes as the Clovis Unified School District and its surrounding area continue to grow while Bay Area school districts see a decline in enrollment.

Terry P. Bradley Educational Center, located in the Clovis Unified School District in Fresno, opened on Monday for its first batch of 1,000 students, Kelly Avants, a spokesperson for the district, told SFGATE. The new campus is enrolling seventh, eighth and ninth graders for the current school year but is expected to eventually become a full K-12 campus.

Fresno and Clovis are also growing cities, contributing to the need for more space in schools, a stark contrast to San Francisco’s school district, which is projected to lose 4,000 more students by the 2032-33 school year…
