Grade inflation undermines Marion County students

I am writing to express my concern with the recent suggestion of bumping student grades in order to help them recover academically. While the intent may be to support struggling students, I strongly disagree with this practice.

Artificially inflating grades is unfair to the students who have worked diligently, applied themselves, and earned their marks through consistent effort. Allowing others to receive the same or higher grades without meeting the same standards undermines the integrity of the grading system and sends the wrong message about accountability.

Furthermore, grade inflation discourages students from working hard and decreases their motivation to engage fully in their own learning. Education is not only about achieving a letter grade—it is about developing perseverance, responsibility, and the ability to overcome challenges. By “helping” students in this way, we risk depriving them of valuable lessons that will serve them far beyond the classroom…
