Knoxville City Council approves nearly $1 million for sidewalk replacements

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville City Council approved nearly $1 million for sidewalk replacements Tuesday night. The project will involve replacing 34,000 square feet of sidewalk.

“We want those sidewalks that we already have, we want those to be as safe and as usable in condition as possible,” said Cody Gentry, the coordinator for Knoxville’s Vision Zero initiative. The division is working on several projects to make streets safer with the goal of eliminating traffic deaths.

The plans include 42 different sidewalk locations throughout the city. Gentry said the locations were picked based on requests from the public, then city engineers determine priority levels after visual inspections…
