Vote to sell land in Chilhowee Park postponed by Knoxville City Council

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville City Council on Tuesday postponed a vote to approve the sale of a portion of Chilhowee Park to the Emerald Youth Foundation.

In their meeting Tuesday, people with the foundation and members of the East Knoxville community spoke before City Council about the pros and cons of the deal that would see the nonprofit organization build a youth education, activities and sports center on the site.

“I am grateful to be able to share my fervent support for this project,” said Rev. Harold Middlebrook, who serves as chair of the Emerald Youth East Area Community Engagement committee.
