Austin Police Seize 9 Pounds of Fentanyl, Arrest Suspect in Major Drug Bust

AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department (APD) Narcotic Support Unit (NSU) announced the arrest of Brett Garza after a six-month investigation into fentanyl distribution in the Austin area.

In February 2025, detectives received information linking Garza to drug trafficking in Del Valle. Surveillance, controlled narcotics purchases, and intelligence gathering identified multiple suspects, residences, and vehicles tied to the operation.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, NSU and the K9 Interdiction Unit stopped Garza after he left a residence under investigation. Officers discovered fentanyl, cocaine, and cash in his vehicle. A subsequent search warrant, executed with APD SWAT, led to the following combined seizures from his vehicle and residence:

  • 4 kilograms (9 pounds) of fentanyl
  • 623 grams (1.4 pounds) of heroin
  • 115 grams of cocaine
  • 2 firearms
  • $9,752 in U.S. Currency
