Sinton vs. Corpus Christi: Water War erupts over the Evangeline Aquifer

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — What started as a city council meeting has turned into a full-blown water fight.

Sinton City Manager John Hobson says Corpus Christi’s plan to pump 24 million gallons a day from the Evangeline Aquifer threatens the survival of smaller towns like his. And he’s promising to try and stop them at every turn.

“You don’t have your well permits yet and you don’t have a transport permit yet,” Hobson warned Corpus Christi leaders. “We will contest every single well permit, and we will contest the right for you to export water outside of San Patricio County.”…
