Hot off the heels of the burger joint’s 75th birthday, Whataburger is adding another new location to the books. But here’s the plot twist — the new restaurant looks like it could complete a Texan trifecta, potentially joining the duo of H-E-B and Buc-ee’s in a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb.
The Collin County city of Melissa is set to become the latest recipient of a new Whataburger, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration. The project details page reveals that the plot of land the burger joint will occupy is owned by H-E-B Commercial Real Estate, which is based in San Antonio. And while the TDLR filing didn’t give an exact address for the new Whataburger, it did place the location on the northeast corner of I-75 & State Highway 121, Melissa, TX 75454. A glance at a map where those two highways meet shows “the Texas dream” shopping center that includes a Buc-ee’s at 1550 Central Expressway, Melissa, TX 75454, and an H-E-B at 1234 Central Expressway, Melissa, TX 75454.
When the H-E-B and Buc-ee’s in Melissa went viral on TikTok back in June, one commenter pointed out that the only thing missing would be a Whataburger to complete “the 3 branches of tx government.” So could that become a reality?
