ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A city councilor is addressing the decline of neighborhood parks across the city, and introduced a plan at Monday night’s city council meeting, which he’s calling the Emergency Parks Grass and Turf Replacement Resolution. The council proposal is aimed at requesting reserved money to restore the dying grasses and remove overgrown weeds at a handful of parks in the city.

Councilor Dan Lewis said the administration didn’t request enough money to properly take care of the parks this year. “We found out we’re short on the budget for the parks and recreation department,” Lewis said. “The mayor and administration asked for $1 million less than they did last year, and said they had enough money to maintain high-quality parks in the city. That is not the case.”
His resolution forces the administration to take that reserved money and put it into park restoration to take care of the grass the city could lose over the winter. “Parks all over the city, especially in Ventana Ranch and other parts of the northwest area,” Lewis said. “But we’re hearing that from parks all over the city that they aren’t maintained, that they got away from us in the summer.”…
