‘Playing with house money’: Parents of Summerlin South Little Leaguers call the experience ‘surreal’

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — With the success of the Summerlin South Little League team, which awaits a showdown with the Metro Region team on Wednesday, Eddie and Sheena Gallegos and Evan Greusel have much in common: pride, confidence and gratitude for the support their sons have received from the Las Vegas Valley as they press on further into the tournament.

“We are so grateful for the support back in Vegas,” said Greusel, whose son Dustin hit a two-run single to put the team up 4-0 en route to a 16-1 win on Wednesday. “The donations, the casinos that are putting up signs, the donations, the sponsorships, text messages, reposts. We’re definitely feeling the love out here.”

The parents described the coverage as surreal. From ESPN to massive crowds, Eddie Gallegos said it’s been hard to contextualize watching his son, Garrett, in the Little League World Series.

“Somebody told me, ‘Do you guys realize how big this is?’ But it’s like, no, we’re here,” Eddie Gallegos said. “We’re in another world. We’re in another world out here.”…
