CLARKSVILLE, TN − Dr. Lucas Teske and the team at Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville have performed the first shoulder replacement surgery in Tennessee utilizing an augmented reality surgical application. Surgeons developed the new technology to perform the surgery because patients may experience a better fit and function, leading to a faster recovery and return to everyday activities.
Using advanced 3D planning tools before the surgery, a real-time surgical instrument guidance system, and augmented reality smart glasses, Dr. Teske and the team performed a personalized procedure based on the patient’s unique anatomy and biomechanics. The augmented reality “smart glasses” allowed Dr. Teske to overlay and view digital scans over the patient’s actual anatomy during the surgery.
