Schools with new policies on cell phone bans hope it will keep students more focused

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — As West Michigan schools welcome students for a new school year, some are also welcoming new cell phone polices.

Lakeview School District in Battle Creek announced via their website that, starting this year, they’re implementing a change to “help students stay focused, connected, and ready to learn.”

The policy, taking effect on Wednesday Aug. 20, the first day of school, prohibits cell phones and other electronic devices during the school day from the first bell to the dismissal bell. According to Lakeview’s website, this includes classroom, hallways, and lunch for students at all grade levels…
