Immigration Status Leads to Felony Charge for Nicaraguan National After Drunken Hit-and-Run
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Nicaraguan man in the U.S. illegally is facing enhanced charges following a drunken hit-and-run in Winter Haven, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Grady Judd announced that Roberto Sandobal-Lopez, 34, was arrested Saturday after he crashed his car into a fence and fled the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, witnesses called to report the incident after Sandobal-Lopez’s white Honda crashed into a fence around 7 p.m. Deputies quickly located Sandobal-Lopez walking nearby and determined he was intoxicated.
His eyes were described as “watery” and “bloodshot,” and deputies noted a strong smell of alcohol. Sandobal-Lopez allegedly admitted to drinking six bottles of Modelo beer earlier in the evening…
