GALLERY | Injured Great Egret returns to rookery after rehab at Lancaster County center

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — An injured Great Egret has now returned to its natural habitat after rehabilitating at a wildlife center in Lancaster County.

Raven Ridge Wildlife Center posted on Facebook that a Great Egret that was found “limping and struggling on the ground” in early July. The center said that the young Egret was thin, dehydrated and weak.

The Egrets at Kiwanis Lake are fledgling, a crucial stage for any young bird as they leave the nest. During this time, they learn from their parents how to fly, perch, fish, and develop the skills necessary for survival. Unfortunately, fledglings can become separated from their families, find themselves in trouble, or struggle to learn how to hunt for food…
