Thousands in funds raised for slain officer’s family

When a fundraiser was set up for the family of DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose, who was killed in the line of duty during a shooting at the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Aug. 8, the original goal was $11,000.

That amount was surpassed within minutes. Within 24 hours, more than $100,000 had been contributed, with many donors being CDC staff.

At press time, approximately a week after the tragedy, more than $532,000 was raised by more than 6,500 donors to help ease the financial burden that his family, which includes two children and his pregnant widow, now face…
