The Folsom Police Department announced that it will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on August 28, aimed at curbing impaired driving and enhancing road safety. According to a social media post by the department, the checkpoint will take place during the evening hours at a location within the city that has not been disclosed. The selection of the checkpoint spot is based on data indicating a high incidence of alcohol-related crashes.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Mike Grueneberg remarked, emphasizing the safety concerns that DUI checkpoints address, in a statement obtained by the Folsom Police Department. The operation of these checkpoints is not solely focused on alcohol consumption but also cautions against the effects of legal substances such as prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana on driving abilities even though some of these substances are legal for recreational or medicinal use, they do not allow for legal driving under their influence.
Those stopped at the checkpoint and subsequently charged with a DUI can expect steep consequences, facing an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties in addition to a suspended license.
