Tampa Man Charged with Assault and Burglary Following Standoff with Police

Tensions rose in Tampa as a standoff unfolded between the police and a local man, ending in charges of assault and burglary. In an official release, the Tampa Police Department detailed the arrest of 38-year-old Ryan Haley, now facing legal ramifications for his actions including two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling.

According to police, the conflict began to quickly escalate when Haley, identified as a white male born on April 3, 1987, entered a residence uninvited on W. Giddens Ave. He later confronted the occupants at a nearby restaurant, employing a gun to seriously threaten and intimidate them. The situation deteriorated when Haley clambered onto the hood of their car while brandishing the firearm, reportedly causing them to fear for their lives. In an attempt to visibly contend their safety, the victims drove away, leaving Haley to flee to his vehicle.

“The responding officers applied their de-escalation and negotiation training with great skill during a lengthy standoff, prioritizing the safety of not only the community, but also the subject himself,” Chief Lee Bercaw stated in the report by the Tampa Police Department.
