AFD responds to flooded building in west Amarillo Tuesday

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Fire Department reported that it responded to a flooded building in west Amarillo Tuesday afternoon.

According to AFD, arriving crews found a building at 3501 South Soncy with water seen coming out of the front door. Officials said most of the building was flooded.

Fire crews said they noticed ceiling tiles hanging and were able to cover equipment with tarps to prevent possible damage. After an investigation, crews said they determined that a 2-inch water line had broken under the foundation feeding the fire riser room.

Water flowed for several minutes before it could be shut off, resulting in about six inches of standing water throughout the 150,000-square-foot building. An estimated 200 occupants were evacuated that included mostly employees and staff. No injuries were reported though one person recently out of surgery was taken to an area hospital as a precaution said officials…
