Unemployment numbers see big spike in northern Arkansas, southern Missouri in June

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show June’s unemployment rates in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri had some big spikes, several as much as one full percentage point, in all but one county in June when compared to the May numbers. Taney was the only county in the area that saw its number go down.

In Baxter County, the rate increased from 3.7% in May to 4.4% in June. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 33rd lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 768 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 17,392.

Marion County’s rate went up from 5% in May to 6% in June, which is tied for the 8th highest rate in the state. Marion County has 330 residents out of work from a labor force of 5,494…
