LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation said on Tuesday that Highway 440 in central Arkansas is being redesignated Interstate 440.
Officials explained that the changeover came after a 4.2-mile stretch of 440 connecting Interstate 40 to Interstate 57 received federal approval as an interstate.

With the former Highway 67/167 becoming Interstate 57, it makes adjacent Highway 440 eligible for designation as well, officials said, meaning Arkansas now has a total of 882 miles of interstate.
