Crews working to fix sinkhole that opened in Battlefield neighborhood

BATTLEFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Crews from Battlefield are working to fix a sinkhole that opened up in a water retention field in a neighborhood on Old Wire Road.

The Greene County geologist, Matt Forir, tells KY3 the sinkhole in the retention field has been on the radar since the beginning of the year. Forir said he was called out to survey the area, and he said sinkholes in retention fields are common.

“This happens frequently, I mean, of course nobody wants to sinkhole next to their house or somewhere in their neighborhood, but this does happen,” said Forir. “We do see a number of sinkholes that open up in detention basins, just because there’s a lot of water to put on there. There’s a lot of pressure on those systems.”…
