SPOKANE, Wash. – As the school year approaches, a local optometrist is encouraging parents to schedule eye exams for their children. Dr. Nate Biancardi from MultiCare highlighted the importance of vision in a child’s ability to succeed in school, noting that undetected vision issues can lead to struggles in the classroom.
Dr. Biancardi explained that vision problems could make it difficult for children to enjoy or retain information from books. He added that an eye exam can provide crucial information about a child’s health that might otherwise go unnoticed. “Eyes are the window to the soul… and sometimes… to an illness,” he said.
During an eye exam, doctors can detect systemic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure, all through examining the eyes.
