ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The odds of a major volcanic eruption from Mount Spurr decreased Wednesday with the lowering of the aviation color code from “yellow” to “green.”
That means the heightened alert levels that the Alaska Volcano Observatory has posted for the last 10 months are no longer in effect for the volcano that sits just 75 miles west of Alaska’s largest city.
Scientists with the observatory say that the frequency of small earthquakes, gas emissions and melting ice have all gone down and they now believe the odds of an eruption in the near future are “extremely low.”…
