Charleston County Council to discuss contract for Fort Johnson Road intersection improvement project

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County Council is expected to discuss the contract for a major safety improvement project on Fort Johnson Road.

Fort Johnson Road at Secessionville Road and Camp Road are known to be two dangerous intersections, but the county is looking to change that. The two projects are now combined into one construction contract, as they struggled for bids on their own. County staff has been working on a plan for nearly a decade to improve traffic in the area.

“That intersection is so dangerous because you’ve got Stone Post right ahead of Camp Rd, there’s been so many accidents. There’s been a number of fatalities at that intersection. The intersection at Secessionville and Fort Johnson is also very dangerous. It’s kind of a straightaway and people go fast or at least the speed limit,” said, Brook Lyon, mayor of James Island…
