San Mateo County has concluded yet another case of road rage that escalated to violence. Convicted is Alexander Keoni Williams, a 35-year-old San Jose resident. On a January afternoon, a random encounter spiraled into an attack that involved a knife, pepper spray, and threats, leading to Williams’ sentencing to six months in jail and two years’ probation. The San Mateo County District Attorney announced on social media, outlining the intimidating acts perpetrated by Williams against an unsuspecting driver.
According to the official report, the incident began with Williams making “shooting” gestures towards the victim while both were seated in their vehicles. Following this, Williams parked, approached the victim’s car, kicked it, causing $2000 in damage, brandished a knife, and ultimately discharged pepper spray through the victim’s open window. Through the searing pain of the spray, the victim managed to capture part of the attack on his cell phone, and a photo provided by a witness included both suspect and vehicle details, which were critical in identifying Williams.
The quest to find Williams took a turn when he failed to return the Tesla he had rented. Despite hours of surveillance on January 3 at the rental facility in Fremont, CA, Williams never showed. However, San Mateo’s automated license plate readers were rescued, alerting authorities to the Tesla on January 4. A San Mateo PD Sergeant located the vehicle on US Highway 101 shortly after.
