Swim advisory issued for Captain’s Quarter Park in Norfolk due to unsafe bacteria levels

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Department of Public Health issued a swimming advisory Tuesday for Captain’s Quarters Park in Ocean View after water testing showed elevated bacteria levels.

Officials said testing on Monday revealed enterococci bacteria levels above state water quality standards. Signs have been posted at the site to alert the public. Health officials will continue testing and remove the signs once bacteria levels return to safe levels.

The department samples Ocean View beach water weekly during the swimming season, which runs from late May through mid-September. Enterococci bacteria are used as an indicator of fecal contamination in recreational waters…
