Unlicensed driver from Colombia jailed after caught back behind wheel

An unlicensed driver from Colombia was jailed after he was caught back behind the wheel.

A deputy saw 37-year-old Jeisson David Laravaca in a small red sedan traveling quickly on South Haines Road to Northern Avenue in Leesburg around 10:25 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle did not come to a full stop at the stop sign and continued.

From there, the vehicle came to the stop sign at Northern Avenue and County Road 473 and pulled partway into the intersection as it tried to make a left turn. The vehicle almost collided with traffic headed southbound on County Road 473 as well as causing northbound traffic to slow to let him pass. The deputy turned, too, and the vehicle sped up to closely follow another driver closely, the report said.

The deputy checked the tag at that point and learned it was registered to a white Hyundai, not the red one in front of him. He subsequently stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of Lilly’s Super Subs, located at 32339 County Road 473, Leesburg.
