Orlando mayor introduces plan to tackle housing shortage

ORLANDO, Fla. — At this year’s State of the City Address, Mayor Buddy Dyer introduced a new initiative called Orlando Unlocked, which outlines the city’s pipeline to increase housing supply for all to meet Orlando’s growing population.

“That’s just a combination of everything that we’re doing to facilitate the ease of creating more housing. We know that we’re at a huge housing deficit. We’ve seen the price of every level of housing, from rent in a basic apartment all the way to the million-dollar homes going up and making units unaffordable,” Dyer said.

According to the city, from 2020 to 2024, Orlando’s population grew by 14%, while housing grew only 11%, leaving a shortage of approximately 9,400 units…
