ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany County Sheriff’s Office hosted a gun buyback event on Tuesday as part of ongoing efforts to address gun violence and remove illegal handguns from the streets of Albany.
Sheriff Craig Apple introduced the PEACE (Preventing Endangerment & Criminal Exposure) program in July, saying it will give people a safe, respectful and anonymous way to turn in guns for money with no questions asked.

People can exchange a working firearm for a prepaid $350 Mastercard gift card. The sheriff’s office is also offering a $750 reward to anyone who provides information that directly leads to the recovery of an illegal gun.
