FBI arrest in Atlanta marks second suspect linked to fatal shooting outside Charlotte Bojangles

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A second man has been arrested in connection with a drug deal that turned deadly last December, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police and court records.

On Tuesday, August 18, Dontae Harrison, 27, was arrested in Atlanta by FBI agents and is being held at the DeKalb County Jail. Harrison will be extradited to Charlotte to face a murder charge in the death of 25-year-old Demarcus Gerald.

The incident took place on December 7, 2024, when police responded to a 911 call about a man found shot outside a Bojangles restaurant on West Trade Street, near Wesley Heights Way. The caller reported hearing gunshots about an hour before discovering the victim.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers arrived at the scene around 6:45 p.m. to find 25-year-old Demarcus Gerald shot in the head. Gerald was rushed to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, where he tragically passed away around 4:16 p.m. the following day…
