Merced County Animal Control Report Being Shot at Responding to Call of Aggressive Dogs Near Elementary School in Winton

Control Officers were dispatched to Winfield Elementary School for a report of aggressive dogs.

The Animal Control Officers tracked the dogs to a residence in the 6900 block of Chestnut Lane. As the Animal Control Officers approached the residence, we believe four shots were fired at them. Animal Control Officers retreated to safety. Deputies immediately responded to the area, and Winfield Elementary School was placed on lockdown.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene. At this time, no injuries have been reported, and no additional shots have been fired…
