New York families speak out at CDPAP hearing today

On Thursday, families and caregivers who rely on New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program, or CDPAP, will have the chance to share their experiences at a public hearing. The hearing comes amid the state’s largest-ever transition in self-directed home care, moving the program to a single provider, Public Partnerships LLC (PPL).

Supporters say the transition has streamlined services, improved payroll systems, and delivered positive results for many participants. PPL reports that more than 52,000 people have given the program high satisfaction ratings.

However, critics argue the switch has left thousands at risk and claim the state’s bidding process unfairly favored PPL. Some former participants say the program was better when they could choose their caregivers…
