SAN DIEGO, CA – An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. On Monday, August 11, 2025, a 59-year-old Hispanic male was attempting to enter the United States from Mexico when he was referred to secondary inspection.
According to authorities, the man then attempted to flee the inspection area. When his vehicle was blocked at the north end of the lot, he drove south at a high rate of speed, nearly striking multiple Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers. In response to his actions, three CBP officers discharged their firearms.
The man subsequently stopped his vehicle and surrendered. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No CBP officers were injured during the incident. The three officers involved have 22, 6, and 2 years of service, respectively…
