Two Arrested on Weapons Charges (Gun and Machete) Following Patrol Stop

Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrests of a 17-year-old suspect (charged as an adult), and Jery Sarceno, 18, of Hyattsville, Maryland, on charges of possession of a concealed deadly weapon and handgun on a person.

According to police, “On August 17, 2024, at approximately 11:25 am, an officer patrolling in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, near the Red Carpet Inn, observed six males walking through the hotel parking lot toward the rear of the 7500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. The officer requested backup units, as this area is known for criminal activity and trespass violations.

When officers approached the group, they ordered the subjects to stop. One individual, later identified as Ortiz-Cortez, attempted to walk away while appearing to conceal an object in his waistband. He was quickly detained and found to have an outstanding warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department for Assault 1st Degree.
