Man accused of attacking nurse at Palm Beach County hospital deemed competent for trial

LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. (CBS12) — The man accused of brutally beating a nurse at a Palm Beach County hospital was deemed competent to stand trial.

On Tuesday, Stephen Scantlebury made an appearance in the Palm Beach County courtroom, where a judge gave him the green light to go to trial.

In February, Scantlebury was brought to HCA Florida Palms West Hospital under a Baker Act. Officials say Scantlebury, 33, jumped on a nurse, identified as 67-year-old Leelama Lal, and began beating her, ultimately breaking every bone in her face…
