I have lived in Southwest Florida for more than 40 years. When I first moved to the Charlotte Harbor area, I taught sailing. This lifestyle gave me a great avenue to explore our beautiful coastline. I did a lot of sailing, diving, snorkeling, fishing, lobstering and crabbing. Back then and for nearly all that time since, 98% of my time was spent in the outdoors.

While teaching people to sail, they wanted a real-life scenario of what it would be like to live aboard a boat and travel to far-off, exotic places. Most of our sailing trips were on a 39-foot tri-cabin sloop with a 5-foot shoal draft — good for this Gulf coast…
