Man sentenced to life for 2022 murder of 17-year-old at gas station in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A 22-year-old man had been sentenced to life in prison for the June 2022 murder of 17-year-old Sharrod Phillips, according to a release from Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson.

Javeon Campbell was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime by a jury, after three days of trial.

Testimony at the trail revealed that at approximately 3:37 a.m. on June 29, 2022, Campbell entered the Cheapway gas station on Dorchester Road, approached the victim who was standing at the check-out counter, and shot him three times in the back at close range…
