GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kent County resident who was infected with West Nile virus has died, the health department announced Thursday.
It was the county’s first human case this season. Officials did not immediately release the person’s age, gender or name.
Earlier this summer, health officials found the virus in three Kent County mosquito samples, which were collected from different ZIP codes: 49507 in Grand Rapids, 49544 in Walker and 49525 in Plainfield Township. One of those samples — it’s not clear which one — was gathered just 3,000 feet away from where the person lived, according to the Kent County Health Department.
