If you’re looking for something unique (and totally free) to do in Lubbock as August winds down, you’re in luck. The U.S. Air Force Band of the West is bringing their summer tour to the Hub City on Friday, August 30th, 2025 — and trust me, this is one performance you won’t want to miss!

The Band of the West is based out of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, but these 61 professional musicians spend a whole lot of time on the road. Every year, they rack up more than 125,000 miles traveling across Texas and surrounding states, putting on hundreds of performances for both military and civilian crowds. And here’s the best part: every single one of those shows is free to the public.

Musical Ambassadors for the Air Force

The Band of the West isn’t your average concert band. These are world-class musicians who just happen to also wear the Air Force uniform. Whether they’re performing for a live audience in Lubbock or broadcasting on radio and television, their mission is the same: build community, boost morale, and serve as ambassadors of the United States Air Force.

Their concerts are a mix of everything you’d expect from a top-notch symphonic band — stirring patriotic pieces, toe-tapping marches, a little jazz, and even contemporary arrangements that keep things fresh. Basically, there’s something for everybody, whether you’re a military veteran, a music nerd, or just looking for a fun night out with the family.

Lubbock Gets the Finale

The Band’s late August tour will take them through four cities in Oklahoma before making two Texas Panhandle stops: Amarillo on August 29 and then right here in Lubbock on August 30. That means our show is the big finale of the tour — a perfect way to close out their week-long run.

And because it’s the last stop, you can bet they’ll be pulling out all the stops for the Hub City crowd…
