A 9-year-old autistic boy who was badly injured during an assault at the Clinton Green Line station last week has died, and officials have ruled his death a homicide. Elijah Flores was critically hurt when a man knocked him and the adult carrying him down the station’s stairs around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 10, authorities said.
He remained hospitalized until succumbing to his injuries at Lurie Children’s Hospital on Saturday afternoon. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined on Tuesday that Elijah died from blunt force head injuries sustained in a fall down stairs during an assault.
According to a Chicago police report, Elijah was at the station with a 22-year-old man who became involved in an argument with two other men. The confrontation turned physical, and the man picked Elijah up and tried to hurry down the stairs.
