Salem Tries to Find New Air Carrier with Avelo’s Departure

SALEM, Ore. — Salem leaders are trying to find a way forward, now that the city has lost its only commercial air carrier.

As recently as December, Avelo Airlines advertised $59 flights from Salem for September’s Labor Day weekend. But that’s no longer happening. Avelo stopped its Salem flights on August 10th. It’s part of its west coast shutdown, also impacting Eugene and Redmond.

Avelo flew about 90,000 passengers on 820 flights to Las Vegas, Burbank, and Sonoma County after it started operating in Salem in 2023…
