Missing Winter Haven Woman With Dementia Found Safe After Night-Long Search

Vigilant deputies, K-9 bloodhounds, and a crucial tip lead to the safe return of a 67-year-old woman

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A multi-agency search concluded with an “outstanding outcome” early Thursday morning after a 67-year-old woman with early-onset dementia, who went missing from her home on Wednesday night, was located safe and sound.

The incident began around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday when the woman, a resident of the Lake Ned area, stepped outside to smoke and did not return. Her son, who had recently moved in to care for her, discovered she was gone and immediately contacted authorities. The woman was last seen wearing a nightgown and no shoes.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) quickly mobilized a full-scale search operation. Deputies, aviation units, detectives, and a K-9 bloodhound were deployed to the area, initiating a thorough search for the missing and endangered person…
