The Collier Community Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant to Marco Island Charter Middle School to support the enhancement of its STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) lab, according to Becca Mysels, grants coordinator, MICMS.
The grant will help fund new equipment, technology, and resources designed to “foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills” in MICMS students.
Temporary modification for Marco-area drinking water
Marco Island will temporarily change the disinfection process for drinking water for the Marco Island and Marco Shores service areas. From Sept. 1 through 30, the water will be disinfected with free chlorine rather than chlorine combined with ammonia.
“This conversion to free chlorine (a stronger disinfectant) from chloramines allows the city to perform an annual water distribution system purge as recommended by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for water utilities using chloramines as their primary disinfectant,” read a press release from the city. “This temporary change in disinfection does not cause adverse health effects. However, during this period you may experience a change in the taste, odor and/or color of the water due to the change in treatment.”…
