NYPD hires largest police recruit class in nearly 10 years

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on Wednesday the hiring of the largest class of officers sworn in almost a decade.

This class of 1,093 recruits is the largest class of police recruits since 2016 as well as the biggest to be hired during the Adams administration, surpassing a record set in January.

With this latest group, the NYPD has hired a total of 2,911 recruits in 2025, the highest number since 2006. The total number of police officers hired under Adams now totals nearly 10,000, and including those already working in the city and those currently in training…
