Freeport community outraged following abrupt rent increases

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – Freeport residents cry foul after receiving a notification indicating their rent would increase.

The abrupt changes seemingly came overnight. Some residents report they got notifications from their landlord about the rent increase, with some rents increasing by more than $600. The notification also indicated residents have seven days to pay it.

The City of Freeport confirmed the increases. They also confirmed Pied Piper Group took over Chapman Properties, which owns properties scattered throughout Freeport, impacting hundreds of renters. WIFR did reach out to Pied Piper Group for comment, but has not yet received a response…
