Springfield man faces charges for threatening to burn down apartment building

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A man in Springfield was charged with a terrorist threat after saying he was going to burn down an apartment building and cause evacuations in 2024.

According to the probable cause statement from Springfield police, officers went to help fire personnel with an odor of natural gas coming from an apartment building in July 2024.

A Springfield firefighter on scene told the officer he went to speak with a resident, Jonathan Heyward, about a natural gas odor in his apartment. They found the gas stove burners in the apartment were set on high, but they were not ignited, and the firefighters turned them off…
