Fire officials detail what to do, what not to do during red flag warnings

EUGENE, Ore. — EUGENE, Ore. — The Southern Willamette Valley is under a red flag warning until 8 p.m. Thursday, as the area heats up and gusty winds blow through the region.

There are many steps residents can do to ensure their safety and others as well, according to Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Mike Caven.

“Anytime you are in fire season, you need to take extra precautions: chains, sparks, those types of things. The usage of recreational fire outside of approved areas, all of that, fire season is a problem. When you are doing it during a red flag warning, what you’re risking is an accident becoming a catastrophic fire,” he said…
