Chattanooga man quits job, sells home, learns at the airport he’s a romance scam victim

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Two scam victims in two separate cases in Hamilton County recently got all or some of their money back, with help from the sheriff’s office.

In one case, a Hamilton County man lost $250,000 to a person posing as a woman who promised him they’d marry, move to Florida and buy a home together.

This romance scam ended with heartbreak, though, with the man quitting his longtime job, selling his home, and showing up at the Chattanooga Airport, expecting to pick up a ticket to Florida — only to learn there was no ticket and that his accounts had been emptied…
