Families of Oxford High School Shooting Victims Reach $500,000 Settlements with School District

Two families have reached a settlement with Oxford Community Schools after the tragic shooting at Oxford High School, which took the lives of four students in 2021. The settlements, amounting to $500,000 each, will be paid to the families of Madisyn Baldwin and Justin Shilling, as confirmed by their attorneys.

While these agreements have been confirmed by the school district’s attorney, Tim Mullins and the families’ legal representatives, they mark a sobering chapter in the aftermath of the violence that took place. Mullins stated to CBS News Detroit that the families accepted the offer, which the other affected families of Hana St. Juliana and Tate Myre, declined. In a poignant refusal of the settlement, the father of Hana St. Juliana even told the board to “shove” it at a school board meeting in June.

On that fateful day in November 2021, apart from the fatalities, six other students and a teacher were injured. Ethan Crumbley, the shooter and then a 15-year-old student at the school, is currently serving a life sentence after his 2023 guilty plea on multiple charges. His parents James and Jennifer Crumbley, found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in separate trials in 2024, were considered partially responsible due to their neglect of warning signs and their purchase of the firearm used in the shooting, as reported by ClickOnDetroit…
