A Lansing-area beach was among more than a dozen statewide under bacteria advisories as Michiganders head into the last week of August and the start of the Labor Day weekend.
In a state with more than 1,000 beaches, state officials say 17 public and private beaches in counties across both peninsulas aren’t fit for swimming as of Friday, Aug. 22 — likely because of wildlife contamination, according to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, which provides information via an online dashboard.
