Rolex closes its watchfixing school in Lancaster County, which had deep roots in local watchmaking history

Matt McCown moved to Lancaster County seven years ago to be trained by a reclusive Swiss firm in a very particular set of skills.

In a fieldstone building north of Lititz surrounded by hedges, waterfalls and a private pond, McCown and his 13 classmates studied under watchful Rolex instructors who taught them how to service and repair the Swiss company’s luxury timepieces.

Halfway through the two-year program at the Lititz Watch Technicum, McCown had already secured a job as a watch repair technician at a certified Rolex dealer, a testament to the cachet of the famous watch brand and its watchmaking school…
